Crossroads of Parenting & Divorce - Co-Parenting Seminar

Crossroads of Parenting & Divorce is a video-based seminar designed to minimize the emotional damage that parents cause to their children during and after a divorce. The seminar provides parents with the skills necessary to make child-focused decisions. Parents learn that their behaviors and choices determine how their child will ultimately adjust to the divorce. This seminar is designed to educate parents about children’s issues in divorce as well as the need to value their co-parent and understand the importance of communication between homes. It explores these issues by incorporating skill development and application along with small-group discussion. The seminar is suited for parents and guardians who co-parent regarding their child. These could be individuals who are filing for divorce, have already divorced or have never married. The Crossroads of Parenting & Divorce seminar is facilitated by Shanna Moke, MA, CFLE and Melanie Vanderpol-Bailey, LICSW-PIP. The seminar is six hours in length.

The Crossroads of Parenting & Divorce seminar benefits children by:

• Reducing their symptoms of stress as parental conflict decreases
• Diminishing their sense of being caught in loyalty binds
• Creating a more relaxed home environment, allowing for easier adjustment
• Increasing the likelihood of keeping two active parents in their lives
• Enhancing their self-esteem by creating an optimal environment for growth

The Crossroads of Parenting & Divorce seminar benefits parents by:

• Alerting them to the emotional abuse associated with family separation
• Teaching effective communication and conflict-resolution skills
• Helping them recognize the bond that a child has with both parents
• Fostering sensitivity to the child’s needs
• Focusing on present child-rearing issues rather than on past marital issues

Shanna Moke and Melanie Vanderpol-Bailey will guide parents through five preventative steps:

Step 1: Keep your Child Out of the Middle
Step 2: Allow Your Child to Love Both Parents
Step 3: Work on Your Own Recovery
Step 4: Create New Communication Patterns
Step 5: Develop a New Role as Co-Parents
